Female Hygiene Marketing Campaign: Flo App Pr Stunt | iMP
iMP CASE STUDY

Disruptive PR Stunt for Flo App.

How iMP took Flo App’s anonymous community conversations off the screen and onto the streets of London. We turned period taboos into a high-footfall, high-impact experiential campaign.

Brief: to shatter menstrual taboos with Flo App.

The core mandate from Flo App for this female hygiene marketing campaign was unapologetic: The way women’s bodies and reproductive systems work is never TMI.

The brand wanted to address the deeply rooted social hesitation around discussing normal bodily functions. These range from irregular menstrual bleeding to natural cervical mucus and gastrointestinal changes during cycles. The strategy behind the Flo App PR stunt was built on three distinct deliverables:

  • Normalize conversations about vaginal discharge, menstruation, and intimate health in busy public spaces
  • Drive direct user acquisition for the platform by showcasing their anonymous “Secret Chat” community network
  • Capture the attention of female hygiene managers and wellness directors looking for a masterclass on breaking through market saturation using raw, hyper-targeted experiential mechanics

Solution: electric pink morph suits and unfiltered period realities.

To answer the brief, iMP designed a high-impact, physically disruptive guerrilla marketing format staged across London’s heaviest retail footfall corridors.

To visually jar the public out of their daily routines, our female brand ambassadors were styled in signature, vibrant pink head-to-toe morph suits. This styling choice served a dual purpose: it ensured maximum visual disruption while reinforcing the theme of user anonymity within intimate health spaces.

Instead of handing out standard promotional flyers, our street teams distributed custom-printed copies of “The Menstrual Issue” (TMI) a realistic newspaper layout displaying massive headlines focusing entirely on the hidden symptoms of the menstrual cycle.

Process: precise guerrilla execution.

Executing a bold experiential campaign dealing with intimate themes requires precise management. iMP handled every operational touchpoint of this Flo App PR stunt flawlessly:

  • scheduling: staff deployment followed a strict timeline, moving teams efficiently from morning briefing and suit fitting at International House over to high-impact locations
  • strategic transit & locations: field teams traveled via the London Underground network to target Piccadilly Circus and Covent Garden during peak footfall windows
  • content capture: iMP coordinated closely with a dedicated photographer and social media team, working through a strict shot list to document the real-time public reactions
  • public handout coordination: we managed a localised 1-hour public distribution wave, successfully handing out 300 target publications to shoppers and commuters

Analysis of the PR stunt:

  • shattering the cycle cramps taboo: our anonymous pink field teams occupied high-visibility zones outside Piccadilly transit hubs, lifting large broadsheets with the headline: “I get butt cramps on my period.”
  • the vaginal solidarity movement: Our team clustered in the main plaza of Covent Garden, holding newspapers aloft that read, “Join the secret chat,” transforming the public space into an active platform for period-positive awareness
  • confronting menstrual realities head-on: Passersby were confronted with the stark headline, “My period poops are crazy”—instantly turning a common hormonal gastrointestinal symptom into a relatable conversation starter
  • normalizing intimate care products: An ambassador leans against a central storefront pillar displaying the bold text, “Big pads are my hero,” destigmatizing the visible reality of purchasing heavy-flow menstrual care products.
  • addressing the discharge stigma: Our field teams infiltrated outdoor cafes holding a broadsheet that addressed an incredibly common biological reality: “Discharge keeps bleaching my underwear.” By displaying this headline in casual dining environments, the stunt completely reframed a normal bodily function

Results: a female hygiene marketing campaign.

By openly presenting headlines regarding vaginal discharge, heavy periods, and cycle-related symptoms, the campaign successfully stripped away the historic shame associated with female anatomy.

  • immediate street-level impact: within the first hour of activation, field teams distributed 300 copies of The Menstrual Issue across two of London’s highest-footfall zones – this generated spontaneous public reactions captured across a dedicated shot list for organic social distribution
  • deepened consumer trust: validating hidden physical anxieties created an immediate, deep-seated sense of brand affinity and user solidarity, directly driving traffic to Flo App’s “Secret Chat” ecosystem
  • flawless brand protection: despite the provocative headlines, the precise control of the iMP brand ambassadors ensured a safe, empowering, and highly professional environment for the public throughout the entire event

Why radical honesty is the future of female hygiene marketing.

  • for marketing directors and female hygiene category managers leading beauty, wellness, or intimate care brands, safe messaging is no longer an effective strategy. To capture authentic consumer engagement, your activation framework must focus on destigmatisation, clinical truth, and emotional resonance
  • eliminating shame drives consumer trust: By openly presenting headlines regarding vaginal discharge, heavy periods, and cycle-related symptoms, the campaign stripped away the historic shame associated with female anatomy. When a brand validates a consumer’s hidden physical anxieties, it creates an immediate, deep-seated sense of brand trust
  • high-impact visuals counteract product invisibility: Intimate care products are often tucked away in retail aisles. Bringing the conversation to life through anonymous, vibrant field staff holding explicit menstrual health newspapers completely upends that quiet, out-of-sight product positioning
  • airtight operational control protects the brand: Executing a bold experiential campaign dealing with intimate themes requires precise management. iMP handled every operational touchpoint of this Flo App PR stunt flawlessly: managing the photographer’s shot lists, organizing regional team transit via London Underground routes, distributing over 300 target publications, and maintaining a safe, empowering environment for our brand ambassadors throughout the event
